Start a Vanpool

​Vanpool passengers pay a low monthly fare based on the round-trip mileage, van size, number of commute days and the number of riders in the van. Fares cover the costs of operating the van, including fuel, insurance, and maintenance. See our fare schedule to get an idea of your monthly commute costs.

How to Start a Kitsap Transit Vanpool 

  • You need at least three commuters to start and maintain a vanpool.
    • Each group needs at least two drivers who will go through Kitsap Transit’s online orientation
  • The vanpool group determines pick-up and drop-off locations and the commute schedule.​
  • Vanpool passengers pay a low monthly fare based on the round-trip mileage, van size and the number of riders in the van. Fares cover the costs of operating the van, including fuel, insurance, and maintenance. 
  • You pay your fare at the beginning of each month to reserve your seat
    • You aren't required to ride every day; members can ride fewer than five days a week.

​Get help building a vanpool

The more people in your vanpool, the lower your fare.

After you have other riders, call us. You'll need to:

  1. Map a route
  2. Decide on pick-up and drop off points Route Information Form 
  3. Determine a schedule
  4. Choose a primary contact for your vanpool
  5. Choose a bookkeeper to track your daily ridership and miles 
  6. Choose at least two people to drive. Drivers must meet specific requirements.
    ​We screen and approve all drivers. Fill out the Vanpool Driver Application Packet
  7. Have drivers and riders read and sign the Vanpool Rider Agreement
